Get creative with new widget backgrounds!

New background setting for iBooks Author widgets

We’re pleased to announce new intelligent backgrounds for our widgets today. After listening to feedback from authors we’ve introduced a useful range of options that you can use to make your widgets look even more stunning in your digital books.

Previously when you uploaded a background image for your widget, we always tried to do the right thing, either re-size the image, or crop part of it off. However authors have told us they want more control than this, so now you can customize exactly what we do with your backgrounds. You can now find these new settings on Bookry.com for existing widgets that support backgrounds, and we’ve even also added this functionality to some of our other widgets, including Slider Puzzle and Feedback.

New widget background options on Bookry.comWhen you upload a widget background image you will also see a layout section allowing you to specify how you want it laid out. If you want it to all just work as it did, then you don’t need to do anything. The generator will pick the best choice for you. However, if you want to do something special, such as anchor an image to the top left of your widget and make the background red, all the options are now available to let you do this. We can’t wait to see what new and exciting widgets you create using these new settings!

You may also notice that we’ve made a few layout changes to other user pages, these include the ‘Book Settings’ and the ‘Widget Settings’ pages to help with usability – check out the ‘Save and Preview’ button at the bottom of any widget generator!

We hope you’re as excited as us about these updates! Remember you can find all of these improvements live on Bookry right now, so login or sign-up. If you need a little help or want to send us some feedback about these changes, or anything else, please use our online support system. Also visit our free Widget Library to browse our widgets for use with iBooks Author. Happy authoring!

P.S. Tip from Tom: If you want some sneaky peeks of what we’re working on check us out on Twitter. He’s promised to upload some sneaky screenshots later today 😉
